Mathematics Seminar of the School of Physical Sciences --------------------------------------------------------- Title: Mathematics and Computation Speaker: Kapil H. Paranjape (Indian Institute for Science Education & Research - Mohali, Mohali) Date: April 22, 2016 Abstract: Some open-ended questions arise out of computations in mathematics. Specifically, the computations are: Euler's technique for summation of series, Chakravala method for finding units and Benford's law. These lead to questions about good estimates for values of L functions, algorithms to find units in abelian extensions and some ergodicity results associated with matrices.
