About the Speaker: Alex Faulkner joined the University of Sussex in 2012 from the Department of Political Economy, King's College London. He is a sociologist specialising in biomedicine and biomedical technology, and previously worked in the UK's national Health Technology Assessment programme. His research encompasses the governance of medical technology innovation especially in UK and EU regulatory contexts, issues of cancer detection and screening, and adoption of technologies into healthcare systems. His current research includes an ESRC-funded project on the relationships between biomedical technologies and elite sport, ethical issues and public views; and an ESRC-funded 'Rising Powers' project on global state strategies of biomedical innovation in India, China and the UK, focusing on regenerative medicine, bioinformatics and regulation of pharmacogenomics. He also contributed a paper in the CSSP Electronic Working Paper Series on S&T Policy and Innovation Studies.
