Ergodic Theory and Number Theory

<strong>Mathematics Seminar of the School of Physical Sciences ------------------------------------------------------</strong> Title: <strong>Ergodic Theory and Number Theory</strong> Speaker: <strong>Jayadeb Athreya</strong> (University of Illinois, Urbana) Date:<strong> August 25, 2015 (Tuesday)</strong> <strong>Abstract: </strong>We explore connections between seemingly different areas of mathematics: number theory, the study of integers and rationals, and ergodic theory, the study of measure-preserving transformations. We will give a simple example of a connection motivated by Diophantine approximation.
