Shipra is one of the newest hostels in JNU, located in Paschimabad II. It started operating from 2011 as a girls hostel. Most rooms are dual occupancy and each room has a balcony. The Hostel is surrounded by Koyna Hostel on the north and Lohit Hostel on the west. The eastern side of the hostel is surrounded by lush green forest. The Hostel has 272 rooms and 11 dormatories with 12 beds each. The Hostel Mess offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner to all the residents. The hostel has a gym, a reading room, and a TV room for residents. There are sports facilities like badminton court, table tennis, and carom board. The Hostel provides an excellent environment for academic work of residents. Shipra has a diverse group of students representing every state in India as well as several international students.
Keeping with the democratic ethos of JNU, the Hostel elections are held every year at the beginning of the new academic year and presided over by the four Wardens of the hostel. The Hostel President, the Hostel Committee with six members, and the Mess Committee with six members are elected every year.
