Abstract: We will discuss the \u000Cfirst and second de Rham cohomology of the nilpotent orbits in real simple classical Lie algebras. First, we will outline a convenient description of the \u000Cfirst and second cohomology groups of a homogeneous space of a connected Lie group. Then, we apply this to study the topology of nilpotent orbits.
The initial part of the talk will be accessible to a wider audience.
